George Oll married Janet Smith in Wick, Caithness on the 12th January 1787. He was described as a ‘Weaver’.

There is no information at the moment on the parents of either George or Janet or where or when they were born or died.

Currently, I have discovered that they had four children born in the Wick area as follows; -

Alexander – born about December 1787

William - born about July 1790

Elizabeth - born about January 1795

John - born about January 1799

Apart from Alexander and John nothing is known about the other two children

Additional Information

The 1861 census shows that living next door to Alexander (above), near Thuster, were William Auld (aka Oal) and his sister Isabella Auld (aka Oal).

William, a farmer born about 1785, died at Thuster on the 18th March 1877 aged 92. His death was registered by Alexander Gray, Alexander's son-in-law and neighbouring farmer at Thuster.

Isabella, a farm/domestic worker born about 1792, died nearby at Wathegar on the 25th January 1874 aged 82.

They were both shown as children of John Oal, a weaver, and Catherine/Isabella Oal (m.s.Gunn).

There is a marriage of John Ole to Katharen Gun(n) on the 24th November 1775 in Watten, Caithness, which is about 4 miles north west of Thuster, but no confirmation that this is the correct couple.

This John must have been born about 1755. Could he have been a brother of George Oll?
