Ellen Auld
1873 to 1961

Ellen Auld,- "Nellie" - was the second daughter of Alexander and Catherine Auld(m.s.Wares). She was born on the 1st November 1873 in Barrock, Lyth, Caithness.

She married George William Craven, the son of George, a gamekeeper, and Rebecca Craven(m.s.Anderson), in the Burnett Arms Hotel, Banchory on the 23rd March 1898. George was a 33 year old Valet working in Whitehall Gardens, London and Nellie was living with her parents in Blackhall Castle, Banchory.

Subsequently Nellie ran the “Banchory Cafe” in Banchory during the 1920’s/1930's.

George died in Aberdeen in 1930, aged 65.

Later she moved and ran the Bridge of Canny Post Office and shop, which was on the main Braemar road just west of Banchory, with her sister, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth died in 1944 but Nellie stayed on at Bridge of Canny until the mid 1950's.

In her later life she moved to Cruden Bay and died in Ugie Hospital, Peterhead on the 11th February 1961, aged 87. She had no children.
